Hey O Sambha….

Ramesh Sippy's 'Sholay' is the most popular movie of the last century! Every actor in this film got special recognition. Even the artist who played a small role became famous all over the world. McMahon was one of them. In 'Sholay' he played the role of Gabbar Singh's partner Samba (Sabma). He had only one dialogue in the entire movie 'pure fifty thousand….' But this single dialogue brought him unprecedented fame. And McMahon's identity became 'Sabma'. But did you know that McMahon didn't want to be in cinema? He wanted to become a cricketer. He came to Mumbai to play cricket. But the twists of fate were such that he could not become a cricketer but earned a good reputation as a character artist in films. Another very important thing is that McMahon saw 'Sholay' almost six months after its release! Why did this happen? There is also an interesting reason for this. That is the story.

McMahon (sabma) real name is Mohan Makhijani. He was born on 24 April 1938. From Karachi in Pakistan. Father was a senior officer in the British Army. After his birth, his father was transferred from Karachi to Lucknow. Mohan did all his education in Lucknow and Manali. In 1952, all his family came to Mumbai. Because his mother's illness had worsened and all the family came to Mumbai for her treatment. McMahon was very happy after coming to Mumbai. Because this was a big opportunity for him to go into cricket.

In school and college in Mumbai, he practiced cricket hard. He was the captain of the school team and believed that one day he would play for the Indian team. But a person decides only one thing happens. During this period, along with cricket, he also got an opportunity to work in plays. His mother was played by Shaukat Azmi in one of the plays. They liked his performance and offered him a role in EPTA's play 'Election Ticket'. Filmalaya's Mukherjee saw this role and liked it very much. He immediately invited him to his acting school. After completing a formal course in acting, McMahon got Chetan Anand's Haqikat (1964). But his name was mistakenly written as Brijmohan in the credit list! His friends used to call him Mackey which later became Mack and later Mohan. how is it While LP Rao, editor of Filmfare magazine, wrote McMahon instead of Brij Mohan while writing a review of 'Haqiqat'. And McKee became a McMahon. Later he acted in many films. Cricket gradually passed away and he started working in the field of cinema. But here too the struggle was great.

In an interview, he had said that every day he used to go out on the terrace and recite dialogues loudly in the voice of different actors, causing trouble to the neighbors. Famous director Raghunath Jhalani lived next to him. They saw his madness and cast him as a madman in one of his films. This role was very popular. Ravi Tandon is McMahon's brother-in-law. He cast McMahon as the main villain in the film 'Anamika'. After seeing his role, Ramesh Sippy gave him the role of Gabbar Singh's companion in the film 'Sholay'. In this role, he had to sit on a hill and interact with Gabbar Singh. McMahon's role was significantly cut during the filming of the film. So McMahon was very upset and did not go to the premiere of 'Sholay'. Also did not go to the party. Soon he left for Rajasthan.
