This is Mahesh Bhatt's best movie

Whenever someone asks what are your favorite films directed by Mahesh Bhatt, I say 'Artha' (1982), 'Saaransh' (84), 'Jakhm' (98), 'Sadak' (91) and 'Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke' (93). ) states in this order.

I remember, once some of us film journalists were sent to Mehboob studio for shooting reporting, shooting of Mahesh Bhatt's film. In those days, Mahesh Bhatt was like a 'film directorial factory'. By then mobile phones were expensive, otherwise Mahesh Bhatt would have sat on the sets of one of his films and directed the sets of his other films by video call. There is skill in that too. Leave the fun part aside, but I consider Mahesh Bhatt a director of immense potential, vision, variety in themes (I chose his films with that in mind) and a very focused director. On that day, 'Angare' on one side and 'Duplicate' on the other side were being shot at the same time in Mehboob Studio and of course the director of both was Mahesh Bhatt.

When I met Mahesh Bhatt recently at a small event in a five-star hotel, he was very impressed when I showed him a newspaper ad of his first film 'Manzile Aur Bhi Hai' (1974) on my mobile. There was a lot of controversy as the censors objected to some of the scenes in the film. It was realized that his botch was still there. One such is his famous film 'Jakhm' (Released on 25th December 1998. Twenty-five years complete. 15th December on Google is the date the film was approved by the censors.)

One of Mahesh Bhatt's modus operandi, as soon as his film is completed, hold a trial for a few people in the film industry and media in a mini theater to get the feedback. Even listening to something negative. Otherwise, it is my experience that many filmmakers like to listen to goddhod. The story of 'Jakhm' is by Mahesh Bhatt and screenplay by Mahesh Bhatt and Tanuja Chandra. Dialogue by Girish Dhamiya. Photographer Nirmal Jani. The film is produced by Pooja Bhatt Productions.

'Jakhm' I felt while watching it at the underground Ajantha Arts mini theater in Sunil Dutt's bungalow on Pali Hill. An emotional story between a mother and a son against the background of Hindu-Muslim relationship and conflict was enacted without any kind of rhetoric or preaching. Mahesh Bhatt has made this movie based on his own life. The love story of Shireen Mohammed Ali (Pooja Bhatt) and film director Raman Desai (Nagarjuna) takes many turns. He is a Hindu and she is a Muslim. Stones were also thrown at her. He is not ready to convert to Islam for marriage. Raman Desai unfortunately died after the birth of the children. Their son Ajay (Kunal Khemu in school age. Ajay Devgan in adulthood) constantly asks his mother about his father. How come they are Hindus and you are Muslims? The film begins with an argument between Ajay and his wife Sonia (Sonali Bendre) over Sonia's desire to go to England to give birth. But the movie starts with flashbacks and Ajay's view that going through the religious riots in the city is difficult. The film takes shape through several dramatic events. Even the political leader Subodh Malgaonkar (Ashutosh Rana) attempts Hindu Muslim riots etc. (Mahesh Bhatt)

Most notably, Ajay Devgn received a National Award for his solid performance in the role, and his 'goonda hero' image, which had stuck to him since 'Phool Aur Kante' (1991), was forever cemented. How much this film owes to him. Ajay Devgan's acting chops were confirmed and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) established him as a more mature actor. Critics began to take him seriously. Ajay Devgn's 1998 films 'Majorsaab', 'Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha' and 'Jakhm' are all important in his Pragati book. (Mahesh Bhatt)

'Jakhm' is very important for Pooja Bhatt. She has portrayed the character of her real grandmother. Also used her saree and mangalsutra. Movie house like their real house. She decided to refuse for this film considering that all this is a difficult task. But Mahesh Bhatt said, I didn't ask you if you will do this role. You said to play this role. Not the father in him, but the director. This role is more challenging than Pooja Bhatt's bold photoshoot. And she did it responsibly. Anand Bakshi's lyrics by M. M. Music by Kirwani. The song 'Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla' sung by Alka Yagnik plays a character in the film.

'Jakhm' was awarded as Nargis Dutt National Integration Award Film. But Mahesh Bhatt took everyone by surprise by deciding to end his 'journey as a film director'. He preferred to work in things like film writing and production. He set a perfect example of where exactly we should stop as a director. Eventually, he made a comeback in direction with 'Sadak 2' in 2020. But by then the original directorial touch was gone. Mahesh Bhatt on the sets is a different chemistry. In their heads and eyes the frame of our every scene seems to be fitted. Accordingly, he gave a lot of instructions to the actors and cameramen. He managed to focus on directing many films at the same time. In the same year 1998, his three films namely 'Angare', 'Duplicate' and 'Jakhm' were released. And no matter how busy they are on the set, Pooja Bhatt said in an interview that she will remake Jakham. It didn't happen a lot. Mahesh Bhatt has made a special impression on this film, it is not possible again.
