Digpal's 'Shivarayancha Chawa' is different from other films!

Currently there is a wave of historical films in the Marathi film industry. Since the history of the Marathas is the intimate subject of Maharashtra, the Marathi audiences are drawn to the theaters in large numbers. The major name to be taken among the directors making this historical film is 'Digpal Lanjekar'! Digpal has so far made an honest attempt to present the Maratha history based on Shiva Gathas in the form of 'Shivaraj Ashtak'. After that now he has turned his march towards Shambhugatha. 'Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj' is a fiery episode in the history of the Marathas! One of the events in his heroic saga is the loot of Burhanpur! Digpal's new film 'Shivarayancha Chhava' is based on this topic. (Shivrayancha Chhava Movie Review)

The film begins with the coronation of Shambhu Raja! Actor 'Bhushan Patil' has bowed to the role of Shambhu Raja. In the beginning, all the Maratha chieftains and ministers are introduced. This can be called a perfect part of the film. Because, such names in history are often unknown to the audience. Historical films have no choice but to take cinematic liberties. But Digpal often keeps the liberty away and puts the historical facts in front.(Shivrayancha Chhava Movie Review)

As mentioned in the beginning, 'Loot of Burhanpur' is the main subject of the film, so we see that the film takes place in two years, 1680-81. In this, the entire episode from the birth of Shambhu Raj to the death of Shiva Raya and the tribulation at Raigad in between is very carefully avoided. In the first half of the film, the entire plot is told in color, while in the second half, Digpal has tried to keep the audience engrossed.

Talking about acting, Bhushan as a historical character could not make an impact. From the dialogue delivery, he couldn't nail down the gestures of a king as much as he wanted. But, he has done the scenes like fight sequences, sword fighting very well. His hard work is evident from that incident. In the film 'Rahul Dev' who is famous as a villain in Bollywood is seen playing the role of a cruel Mughal warlord 'Kakar Khan'. He has shown his brutality perfectly through his acting. Rajmata Jijau and Ch. 'Mrunal Kulkarni' and 'Chinmoy Mandlekar' have small but effective roles as Shivaji Maharaj respectively. 'Sameer Dharmadhikari' is another side of Digpal's films! Aurangzeb, played by him this time, is equally powerful. It will not be wrong to say that the kind of actor 'Abhijit Shwetchandra' has come in front of the audience in the form of this film. His on-screen presence is very eye-catching. The negative character played by 'Bipin Surve', his gestures and the use of Hindi language are all worth remembering. (Shivrayancha Chhava Movie Review)

Now let's move on to other aspects of the film. The costumes, make-up and powerful dialogues and direction of the film are the big and impressive catch of this film. The emotional bond in the dialogue makes the movie more engaging to the audience. This film once again proves that Digpal has the power to create all the characters of the 16th century. As Marathi history is connected with emotions, Digpal presents each of his films in that way. Historically speaking, only 15 days after the coronation, the Maharaja had undertaken the campaign of Burhanpur. For this, the plan made by Shambhu Raj has been properly presented with cinematic liberties. Interestingly, Aurangzeb's letter to Shahzada Akbar referred to Burhanpur as 'the mole on the cheek of the most beautiful woman', which is mentioned in a dialogue of the film. This film has been prepared after studying so closely.

The somewhat disappointing aspect of the film is, the music! It is not going to be as impactful as other historical films. The songs seem somewhat modern, with no 16th century connection anywhere. The dance in two songs is also somewhat contemporary. Rajaram Maharaj was also not shown. The battle scene of Shambhu Raje and Vagha in the film can be considered as 'Poor VFX'. The Marathi and Hindi language of some dialogues seems to be of today's era. So, in some cases, the movie could have been done better.(Shivrayancha Chhava Movie Review)

There were three films on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in this same year. Two films were released, one was 'Sambhaji 1689' and the other was 'Shivarayancha Chava'! The third film is directed by Laxman Utekar and Vicky Kaushal is playing the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. This big budget is going to release in December. So now it will be interesting to see which of these films is more successful in making an impression on the minds of the audience. (Shivrayancha Chhava Movie Review)

Overall, 'Shivarayancha Chhawa' directed by Digpal Lanjekar is a film that the audience should go and watch at least once in the cinema.

'Kalakriti Media' is giving this movie 3.5.
