Gulzar honored with Jnanpith Award
Log zindagi ka sabes chota aur sabes kimti labj
bhul gaye hai, Pyaar. Kesi badi khushi ke intezaar me hum ye chote chote
khushiyon ke muchee kho dete hai. It is so simple to be happy. But it is so
difficult to be simple This is Gulzar's very effective dialogue from the film
'Bavarchi' directed by Hrshikesh Mukherjee. As Rajesh Khanna also performed it
in the same tune or style, his influence continues even today. This is a
feature of Gulzar's article. (Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
The stature of some 'prestige awards' is further
underscored by the winners. The positive response is that the right talented
personality is receiving this award. Jnanpith award to Gulzar is also a similar
story. There is no disagreement about their choice.
Sahaj reminisces, at a star-studded spot in Andheri, there was a launch event
for the soundtrack of the film 'Filhaal' directed by Meghna Gulzar. As Gulzar's
daughter has ventured into film direction, there is an overwhelming atmosphere.
We present journalists were sure that Gulzar will
definitely come to this event. But Rakhi? Rakhi also arrived while the events
were going on. But how to get to the very first row? It was full. So Rakhi
chose to sit in the fourth row. Seeing that, Meghna came down from the stage
and made her mother sit next to her father in the first row. This emotional
moment was a huge hit with our audience. Remarkably, a Marathi newspaper gave a
bottom spread story on this on the very front page and received enthusiastic
response from the readers. Gulzar and Rakhi have been living apart from each
other for many years, so the moment of their coming together like this is
great. (Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
Gulzar lived in Baskiana bungalow on Pali Hill while Rakhi lived in her farm house in Tara village in Panvel taluka. (Many still remember the detailed interview I did with Rakhi for Loksatta's Diwali issue in 2012.) After coming to Mumbai, she stayed at Santacruzla Muktangan Society. Over time they came together. Such a different memory. A few years ago, after I spoke at an information and entertainment program called 'Film Gappa Va Tappa' at the office of a senior citizens' association in Mumbai, as always, the first question I asked the audience was Googly, which role of Gulzar did you like?
Although I realized the point of the question, I
had not thought of the answer. But quickly I said, I like the 'director' Gulzar
who plays screenplay and dialogues on screen using flashback technique. As the
questioner expected the answer I will give Kavi Gulzar is preferred. Gulzar is
a versatile poet, film lyricist, screenwriter, dialogue writer, director, great
communicator at the same time. But it is equally admirable that Gulzar, who
commands the power of words, has also been successful in the visual medium of
the film. Even today in his songwriting, his age and his career are not felt,
which is a positive sign of his cheerful personality.
A personality so vast and multi-layered is the justice (or shape) it gives to
the talent within us and the artistic pleasure it brings to the masses. That's
why as soon as the Jnanpith award was announced to him, there was a positive
reaction everywhere.
Gulzar's poetry should be appreciated a little. (Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
That love was yours and that hatred was also yours,
from whom would we seek justice for our loyalty…
That city was also yours, that court was also yours.
Even if there was a time when the ocean was
flowing,
there would have been a feeling like that of the river.
There will be immense love for that rain drop from
this earth,
it is not without reason that someone falls so much in love!
After you, we have
spent every moment with you.
Who will rescue you from your feelings of sorrow?
If we too reject you, who will take care of you?
The day passes like this, some
return favors.
When I remember you, I forget the world.
In my love for you, I often forget to be careful.
Looking in the mirror, I felt satisfied that
no one knows me in this house.
Words beauty and great content in every shayari.
Gulzar's real name is Sampurna Singh Kalra. The
multitalented Gulzar Saheb was born on August 18, 1936 in Dina, Punjab. After partition
this place is now in Pakistan. Gulzar has been fond of participating in song
contests since his childhood. From that he became interested in poetry and
later in North Hindustani classical music. He went to his neighbors and learned
to play the stringed instrument. A tendency to learn since then. When Gulzar
went to college, he regularly attended concerts by the likes of Ravi Shankar
and Ali Akbar Khan. He adopted the quality of listening. It is a necessity.
(Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
After the partition of India, Gulzar's family could
not stay in Pakistan for many years. The family came to Amritsar in India and
Gulzar to Mumbai. Here he started working in a motor garage, in Mumbai he got
attracted to Hindi films. He used to write poetry in his spare time. He met
directors and composers Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and music composer
Hemant Kumar and began reciting his poems. Gulzar started his career with Bimal
Roy's 'Bandini' (1963). Bimal Roy is his mentor! An anecdote about it is
famous. Musician Sachin Dev Burman, a motor mechanic, once came to this garage
to repair a car. While talking to Sampurna Singh, Sachinda saw the hidden poet
in him and his extraordinary talent.
Sachinda was then composing music for Bimal Roy's
'Bandini'. Bandini's lyricist was Shailendra. However, Bimal Roy did not like
any of Shailendra's songs during a scene in this film. In such a situation,
Sachinda remembered Sompurana and decided to introduce Sompurana to Bimal Roy.
But the problem was that Bimalda never accepted anyone's words easily. Even
Sachinda had to think ten times before presenting his words to them. Bimal Roy
was impressed by the talent in Soompa and got the song for 'Bandini'. The song
'Mora Gora Ang Lai Le… Mohe Shyam Rang Dei De, Chup Jaungi Raat Hi Mein, Mohe
Pi Ka Rang Dei De…' was composed by Soompurna and became such a hit that it is
still on the lips of fans even today. Lyrics composed by Latadidi and music by
S.D. After this Gulzar was made his assistant by Bimal Roy. So Gulzar considers
Bimal Roy as his mentor. Gulzar's relationship with 'Tragedy Queen' Meenakumari
was emotional. (Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
Meenakumari entrusted all her diaries and shayari to Gulzar before her death. Gulzar edited it and published her poetry. He met Meenakumari on the sets of 'Benazir'. Gulzar was then Bimal Roy's assistant. Gulzar had seen Meenakumari in 'Mere Apne'. He is still haunted by the memories of Meenakumari.
While this was happening, Gulzar's journey as a lyricist also started. The
songs he wrote for the film 'Aandhi' directed by him are his best lyric
compositions. Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi, Kis Mode Se Jate Hai, Tum Aa Gaye Ho
Noor Aa Gaya Ho, Gulzar's multi-hued journey as a lyricist has been a
continuous success. “Sapne Mein Milta Hain” from “Satya” Kajara Re Kajara
Re…Ankhen Bhi Kamal Karti Hain Personal Se Sowal Karti Hain from Bunty Aur
Babli. BD Jalaiai and Namak Ishq Ka in 'Omkara'. By writing such surprising
songs, Gulzar highlighted that he does not belong to any box. Gulzar's nature
is to change with time and constantly live in the present. He also left a
special mark on the songs of other directors' films.
Director Gulzar is another independent identity and
the identity of a talented director is reflected in the names of his films.
Mere apne, செர்க்கு, suddenly,
storm, smell, weather, coast, meera, angoor, namkeen, meera, lizaz, lakin.
Gulzar showed more faith in Vinod Khanna's abilities. But there is one
question, why did Gulzar never give Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan a chance
in his directorial film? (Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
Unfortunately, they had to accept the emergency ban
on 'Andhi'. It was a stranglehold on freedom of expression. The film was banned
because the getup of the political leader Aartidevi (Suchitra Sen) in the film
resembled that of the then Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi. J. Produced by Om
Prakash, the film was released on February 13, 1975 and was successful in
garnering praise from critics and fans alike. (Main Theater Metro in Mumbai)
The ban on 'Aandhi' turned out to be sympathetic towards Gulzar. As soon as
'Aandhi' was screened again after Emergency, it again received a response from
the fans. Even today i.e. after 49 years of the film, it receives special
attention for various reasons.
Gulzar's eloquent dialogues are another highlight.
Gulzar's specialty is writing very meaningful dialogues in exact words. He
wrote the dialogues of many films. The dialogues of 'Anand' directed by
Hrshikesh Mukherjee add to the personality of the film. Zindagi badi honi
should be longi nahi, jab tak zinda hu mara nahi jab mar gaya sala mai hi nahi,
zindagi aur maut upparwale ke haath me hai jahapnah…”His dialogue in Andhi”,
Yeh Jo Chand Hai Na, Ise Raat Me Mekhna. Ye Din Me Nahi Nikalta… In 'Namak
Haram' he has a dialogue, Jaha yaar nahi waha pyaar nahi, Jaha pyaar nahi waha
yaar nahi...(Gulzar Gyanpith Award)
Gulzar's literature is another special identity. To
name a few, Boski (anthology), Takseem (Hindi anthology), Devadi (Marathi
translation of the original Hindi anthology - translator Ambarish Mishra),
Dhoon (Hindi anthology), Mirza Ghalib (Marathi translation - Ambarish Mishra)
Literary Gulzar for his
immense contribution in the field of film. There is a parallel to achievement.
It is not possible for them to go wrong with these two roles. But those roles
complement each other directly and indirectly. But in Gulzar's dialogues and
lyrics, the literary in him peeks through. That's why there is a distinct
'Gulzar school' of cinema and little to learn from it. Gulzar is like a
university in this regard. Also, in the seventies, clean or quality films were
the middle ground between the spicy entertaining films that evoked the
appreciation of 'theater applause and whistles' on the one hand and the
seriousness of artistic or parallel films on the other. This identity was
designed by Hrshikesh Mukherjee, Gulzar, Basu Bhattacharya, Basu Chatterjee.
This period in the history of cinema is notable for many things.

It is only natural that Gulzar has been honored with many awards in this round
trip. Some of these awards. Sahitya Akademi Award in 2002 for the collection of
stories Dhoon, Padma Bhushan Award in 2004. Jai Ho won an Oscar for the lyrics
of the film 'Slumdog Millionaire'. He was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke
Award in 2013 on behalf of the Government of India (Gulzar Gyanpith Award).
A multi-faceted personality who maintains his
literary value, independent thinking, style, focus even while moving in the
ostentatious and practical world of film, Gulzar Saheb's fans were extremely
happy when the Jnanpith Award was announced. Everyone feels that a deserving
artist has been selected for this award, which is a great achievement for him.
