This is an incident in the seventies. Then Shammi Kapoor and his wife Neela Devi were coming from Delhi to Mumbai by flight. Executive class was not very crowded. It was a winter day so there was a pink mist everywhere. Shammi Kapoor and his wife were sipping warm Pangharunath coffee from Blanket. In that mind-blowing atmosphere, Shammi Kapoor started singing. Shammi Kapoor was very fond of music. So he started singing a song. The lyrics of the song were 'Bahe Ankhio Se Dhar Kare Jiya Bekraar…' he sang the line. And immediately they heard an echo of the same line in a sweet woman's voice. Shammi Kapoor was mesmerized by that voice. Who sang so sweetly, so melodiously and so sweetly? This was a tone that should be kept in the ear. Shammi Kapoor was surprised. Who is responding so sweetly to my song? So he stood up from his seat.

A woman on the seat in front of him was singing that song. He was very surprised. At that the woman looked back and said, “Kyun Shammi bhaiya maja aa raha hai na..?” Now it was Shammi Kapoor's turn to be stunned. Because that woman was none other than vocal empress Lata Mangeshkar. Dad! My God! Shammi Kapoor couldn't believe his eyes and his joy was beyond measure. I am very happy to see that Lata Mangeshkar is responding to our voice and song. This song was sung by Lata herself from the 1951 movie 'Humlog', 'Bahe Ankhio Se Dhar Mera Jiya Bekarar Suno Suno Dildar Jaoge Kahun Dil Todke...' then the duo started fighting. Both of them started singing many old songs.

Shammi Kapoor used to start a song.. Lata Mangeshkar used to finish it. Lata would start a new song again and Shammi would confirm it. So many good memories came from this. Lata used to tell the story of the making of that song. Shammi Kapoor used to listen to devotional sentiments. Then Shammi would show as a line. Lata would complete him. His concert lasted for almost an hour.

Shammi Kapoor's wife was watching all this with great joy. She said, "I was going to save the moment we actually wanted a tape recorder!" Later Shammi Kapoor and Lata Mangeshkar started singing a song from Sajjad Hussain's movie 'Saiya'. The song 'Kali Kali Raat Re Dil Bada Sataye Teri Yaad Aye..' was very beautiful. Shammi Kapoor said in this video, “Tears literally started flowing from my eyes. My mind was not ready to believe that I was singing with vocal empress Lata Mangeshkar, this is a very melodious memory of my life and one to cherish for the rest of my life!” (Song)
