How did Mehmood take perfect revenge for his insult?
Comedian Mehmood of the sixties and seventies entertained the audience with his colorful roles when he got silver. Once upon a time, Mehmood was so feared that even big actors were afraid to work with him because if Mehmood was there, he would get all the credit for the film! Writer Hanif Zaveri has written a book on this Mehmood Mehmood : A man of many moods in this book he has told many 'unknown stories'. (Mehmood)
I am sharing a special memory with you. Mehmood was married to Meenakumar's sister Madhu. Mehmood was virtually unemployed at the time of marriage. It was not working at all. He was doing small and big roles in the cinema. He was a driver in the car of many artists. He did not take any work seriously. So Meenakumari was very worried about her younger sister Madhu. That is why she herself used to suggest Mehmood's name to many producers. Once she suggested Mehmood's name to BR Chopra for his film 'Ek Hi Rasta'. When Mehmood reached the set, he found that Meenakumar had recommended his name. He was so self-righteous that he quit that job immediately! (Mehmood)
At that time, Meenakumari's husband Kamal Amrohi
was a big name in the fifties. He himself was the producer
director. Meenakumari wanted Mehmood to act in one of her films. So
she asked Mehmood from her sister to meet Kamal Amrohi. Mehmood then went
to meet Kamal Amrohi at his house. Then Kamal Saheb insulted Mehmood a
lot. He said, “Just because you're Mumtaz Ali's son doesn't mean you're an
actor like him.
You have no acting skills. So you cannot become an actor. Then on the other hand, learn to earn four paise and feed yourself and your wife! So he gave some notes to Mehmood. Mehmood was very angry with them and decided that he would not step foot in this house again. After giving those notes to Kamal Saheb, he left in a rage. Kamal Saheb's words filled his heart. He stubbornly decided to become an actor! Time doesn't stop for anyone. Within a year or two later, Mehmood entered the silver screen and soon became a leading comedy hero. He became a big star in the sixties. (Mehmood)
Here, however, the success graph of Kamal Amrohi
was going down day by day. A feud also started between Kamal Amrohi and
his wife Meenakumari. Kamal Saheb did not like Meenakumari talking to
other men at all. During that time, Meenakumari and Gulzar became quite
friendly. That's what Kamal Saheb wanted. He had asked one of his
assistants to keep an eye on Meenakumari.
In 1964, Gulzar once visited Meena on the sets of
'Pinjare Ke Panchi' directed by music composer Salil Chaudhary. But there
Kamal Saheb's assistant Bakar insulted him a lot. He stopped
Gulzar. At that place Meenakumari and Bakar had a lot of fight and Bakar
pushed her back. It was very insulting to her. She started crying
loudly. Mehmood was also on the set. He put Meenakumari in his car
and took her to his house and from there called Kamal Amrohi and said, “Your
wife is at my house now. Now you yourself come and take her.” In the
evening Kamal Ahib came to Mehmood's bungalow. And went to the door of the
room where Meenakumari was and started requesting her to come home. Meena
had locked the door from inside. Makam was pleading with her for half an
hour. But Meenakumari was not ready to listen. Finally, they got very
angry and started banging and pushing the door. They started
screaming. (Mehmood)

Now Mehmood's endurance has come to an end. He
told Kamal Saheb, “This is the house of a noble man. A hooligan crowd of
people like you will not work here. Sharif people live in our neighborhood. Be
ashamed of yourself, if not a little. If your wife can't come on you, why
do you force it?” So Mehmood took him by the hand and took him out of the
house. Ten years ago Mehmood was humiliated by Kamal Saheb and kicked out of
his house. A circle was thus completed!
