How did Asha Parekh get the super hit movie 'Ha'?

Two years ago, actress Asha Parekh received the highest Dadasaheb Phalke award in Indian cinema. In an interview at that time, he had shared some interesting memories of his first film. In fact, Asa Parekh started acting in the film industry as a child artist from the year 1952. As a child artist, she acted as a child artist in two films, 'Maam' (1952) and 'Bap Beti' (1954) directed by famous director Vimal Roy, but both films were not successful. (Asha Parekh)

Vijay Bhatt chose Asha Parekh as the heroine for the film 'Gunj Uthi Shehnai'. Asha Parekh was very happy as she was very happy that she is getting her first film with the director who produced a film like 'Baiju Bawra'. But the joy was short-lived as after a few days of the film's shoot, the director felt that the heroine did not have much 'star material' and dropped Asha Parekh from his first film. Asha Parekh was of course very upset. (Asha Parekh)

But even after that she was going to film parties. Shashidhar Mukherjee of Filmistan once noticed her in one such film party. They called her the next day for a screen test in their office, Parekh was a bit nervous considering her first experience but she went for the screen test anyway. Producer Shashidhar Mukherjee and director Nasir Hussain took her screen test and selected her and said that soon we are launching the film and you will be the heroine!” Asha Parekh was very happy but she did not share that happiness with anyone. Because a bitter experience of 'Goonj Uthi Shehnai' was with her. So she just waited for Shashidhar Mukherjee's phone call. It's been two days. It's been four days. It's been a week. But there was no response. Asha Parekh was slowly losing patience. She thought Shashidhar Mukherjee might have got someone else a better heroine so cut her address! But as soon as there is a glimmer of hope somewhere in the mind that we will get a film. (Asha Parekh)

Every day she was waiting for the message from them. Finally after two weeks she got a call from Shashidhar Mukherjee. He said, "Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, the car will be standing at your door." Gotta go shooting right away!” Now Asha Parekh's happiness is no more. She could not sleep in that happiness all night. As planned, the next day the car stopped at the door and Asha Parekh's acting car started running smoothly. The movie was 'Dil Deke Dekho' directed by Nasir Hussain. Ironically, Amita was originally the heroine of this film but the producer did not like her so she was dropped and Asha Parekh was chosen instead. And Vijay Bhatt dropped Asha Parekh from Goonj Uthi Shehnai and replaced her with Amita. In a sense, both of them were torn apart! (Asha Parekh)

Dil Deke Dekho was very important for Asha Parekh as the film became a huge success. The film had music by Usha Khanna and rebel star Shammi Kapoor in the lead role. The film was also very important for Asha Parekh's personal life as it was from this film that Nasir Hussain entered her life and she played the female lead in every film for the next ten years.
