Shailendra Singh: Talented but unlucky singer!

In 1971, Shailendra Singh joined Pune's Film Television Institute to study acting. He was also fond of singing along with acting. But they didn't want to pursue a career in singing! His song was heard by Raj Kapoor's friend Vasant Sathe. When Raj Kapoor was preparing for the film 'Bobby'. At that time they needed a new playback singer for Rishi Kapoor. As such, they also started searching for him. It was Vasant Sathe who suggested the name of Shailendra Singh to Raj Kapoor. Raj Kapoor called Shailand Singh from Pune. They heard his voice and liked it.

In this way Shailendra Singh got to sing all the songs in the movie 'Bobby'. First break that too in RK Films! The combination of Shailendra Singh for Rishi Kapoor started then. After this, Shailendra also sang for Rishi in Rafuchakkar, Khel Khel Mein. Two songs were sung by Shailendra Singh in the movie 'Jaharila Insaan' but then the musicians' strike started. This strike lasted for three months. Shailendra was doing the show then. After the strike Kishore Kumar was called to record the song and the song was recorded. The song was 'O Hansini Meri Hansini….' Today no one shows the movie 'Zaharila Insaan' but everyone remembers this song. After this song, Kishore Kumar's voice was used for Rishi Kapoor and Shailendra Singh's voice naturally started to fall behind. 

Meanwhile, when Shailendra Singh met Rajendra Kumar, Rajendra Kumar's brother Naresh Kumar was making a film called 'Do Jasoos'. The film actually had full focus on Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar but chose Shailendra Singh as the hero. As soon as Shailendra Singh liked acting, his inclination towards acting started increasing.

Now it was difficult to keep both feet on the dagger of singing and acting. After 'Do Jasoos', Shailendra Singh also worked in 'Agreement', 'Jaharili' but these films were not commercially successful. Actually Shailendra Singh was very handsome but still not accepted much as a hero. Perhaps because he decided to pursue a career in both the field of hero and playback singer, he could not give proper attention to either. Politics in the music sector also came into it again. His career as a playback singer gradually declined. A talented singer was left behind in this way.Recording singers Talat Mahmood and Mukesh also tried to become actors on the silver screen but they too failed. In 1993, Shailendra Singh had to be admitted to the hospital due to diabetes. But there were various rumors about his health in the industry and the rest of Shailendra Singh's successful career also came to an end.
